It's generally better if you simply include that work via your design projects, if at all. If you're including any of that on it's own, it should be in it's own section, and really only included if at a professional level or good enough to be relevant. The work should be focused on actual graphic design, not illustrations or photography. ![]() We aren't spending 20 minutes on the thing like it's a class presentation, we are often making a decision within 30-60 seconds (even less if it's particularly bad, broken, or otherwise annoying to use). Portfolios should themselves be well-designed, with good usability, no spelling or grammatical errors, and be clear you've tested it. Not every project will be able to justify some process, but what you show should specifically help us understand how you got to where you ended up, such as major developments or choices, considerations and challenges, even failures. Showing swatches or the font in an alphabet does nothing, nor does showing 3-5 thumbnails. Process should always serve a direct insight into your process, not just be checking boxes. Doesn't have to be a wall of text, this can be succinctly done in even 1-2 paragraphs. ![]() Basics of who, what, where, when, why, how, etc. Projects should always be well-presented with adequate summaries detailing at least the objectives, strategy, challenges, and why you think it's successful. Whereas if something was just packaging for 1-3 items, or just a logo, that might count as one. For example, if you had a logo/branding project for a brewery that also extended to packaging design for multiple cans and 6-pack case, marketing materials, interior signage at the brewery taphouse, then that might count as essentially 2-3 projects. The range is just a rough target, not some scientific number, and will also depend on the scale of each individual project.
